Motion 4 (Failed): We [TNC Board] move require all individuals serving as members of the Transhuman National Committee Board of Directors shall contribute a monthly donation, both as a sign of commitment to the furthering the goals of the Transhuman National Committee and in order to support activities and outreach by the TNC. Exact amount of donation is shall be decided by Board members.
- Open Discussion including how this would cause issues with our legal formation, but a limited sense of could help validate or confirm commitment.
- General Statement Opposed by Gennady Stolyarov :
On behalf of myself and the United States Transhumanist Party, I express strong opposition to the proposed Motion 4, which would require TNC Board members to make unspecified donation amounts with no stipulations concerning financial accountability or the uses of donated funds. I oppose this motion due to the likelihood that such a donation requirement would serve as a barrier to entry for transhumanists who might otherwise have wished to contribute to the activities of the TNC – and that therefore this requirement would hinder the growth of the transhumanist political movement. Furthermore, this donation requirement would likely render permanent (or at least persistent for the foreseeable future) the dual TNC / Transhumanist Party situation that persists at present. Since the Transhumanist Party has resolved to be a non-monetary organization in the short and intermediate term, we would not be able to integrate with any entity that requires a compliance infrastructure for federal campaign-finance laws – at least until we ourselves are ready to create such a likely extensive infrastructure. My principal concern with this donation requirement would be not financial – but rather related to the legal risk that arises whenever money and politics are commingled. Furthermore, at this early stage of transhumanist political activity, it is easier and more effective to focus solely on spreading ideas, attracting support, and pursuing free, decentralized projects – rather than on the bureaucratic aspects of compliance, which could quickly overwhelm a small organization. I understand that a monetary component will be necessary someday – but it would be much easier to handle for a more mature organization with personnel that could address every aspect of the needed research and compliance. Sincerely, Gennady Stolyarov II, FSA, ACAS, MAAA, CPCU, ARe, ARC, API, AIS, AIE, AIAF Chairman, United States Transhumanist Party Chief Executive, Nevada Transhumanist Party Editor-in-Chief, The Rational Argumentator Author, Death is Wrong
